The new format on CBS is going to take some getting used to for sure. There are a couple of things I like better than what we’ve done in the past, starting with the fact that CBS does all the work. No need for Cappy to plug numbers into a spreadsheet like before.
I also like the fact that play continues all week. It can be a bit frustrating waiting to see how each week turns out but there is something going on all the time.
Don’t forget to set your lineup today. Changes can be made up until 5 minutes before the first games starts, which is another nice feature.
Week One Recap:
New Guy Gets Best of Self-declared Chumpion
Coach Randolph of Tao of G’s managed to put up the second highest score in Week One enroute to a hotly contested win over ‘Bus, the Chumpion. This game went back and forth all week with ‘Bus seemingly in the advantage most of the time, but in the end, G’s rode solid numbers across the board to the win.
While G’s managed to be consistent through all ten players, Incubus was hampered by poor performances from Morrow and Randolph. What are the chances ‘Bus thought he was getting Zach Randolph rather than Anthony? Naw, ‘Bus wouldn’t do a dumb thing like that... would he?
Sorry, Chumpion, maybe the Meatheads will be an easier mark next week.
Another Newcomer Gets a Dubya
Coach Olsen of Isotopes isn’t satisfied with kicking the Cap’n butt in Fantasy Football, now he’s put a hot basketball team together too. Isotopes had nice numbers through 7 players but could have improved with Kevin Martin in the game over Jefferson or Salmons. I do think Salmons will put up better numbers in the long run than he did in Week One.
Shivermetimbers, who is really computer brain-dead Coach Hollis of Clutch City, actually had a good shot at winning had Pau Gasol played. I wonder if Coach Hollis will manage to sub for the injured Gasol before game time tonight?
CBS VS. CBS
Both The Replacements and StepOff let CBS do their drafting for them. That strategy seems to have worked out pretty well for The Replacements, with Carmelo Anthony leading the way.
One surprise for Cappy with this Replacements team is how well Marc Gasol did for them this week. If he can be consistent with that kind of performance, he will be a real find at Center for Coach Bugden’s team.
Speaking of computer brain-dead, Cap’n Parrotdead noticed Coach Andrew’s name pop up several times during the live draft but he sent me a message saying he couldn’t log in for the draft and would have to trust CBS. I think he didn’t notice the separate window that opens for the draft when you log in. Did the same thing myself but I figured it out...
Meatadors VS Ballwashers: Game of the Weak
I’ll forgive Coach Sisti for starting two empty slots this week. He told me he was out of town and would have to let CBS draft for him. I’m going to presume that he didn’t get a chance to set his lineup either, before play started. Look for Ballwashers to be more competitive in the coming weeks as Coach Sisti is generally pretty on the ball.
As for Meatadors, it’s looking like it will be a long season. Nowitzki’s 38 was his best performance. No one else even cracked 30. It’s tough to find the bright spot in this dog. Knowing how Coach Dutt keeps track of his teams, I wonder if he’ll even notice?
Another Newcomer Gets a Dubya
All of our QFBA Newcomers got a win this week. While that may be a fearsome omen from some teams, I’m thinking it’s more along the lines of luck from Coach Whitson’s team this week. Big J’s Battalion had a handful of nice performances powering him to the win this week, but he’s got a lot of dogs that will keep him grounded unless he makes some changes, starting with Tyson Chandler.
Coach A. Heiniger, on the other hand, didn’t have any real dogs but neither did The Boozers have a single player break 30 points. Gonna be tough to get a Dubya at that rate, at least until they play Shivermetimbers or Meatadors.
The Mrs. Gives Cappy a Gutful
Okay, the drawback to play that lasts all week is that Mrs. Cappy was a royal pain in my Parrotdead ass all week. I swear, one more night of her face buried in the computer and keeping me apprised of how I’m getting whupped and I might have gone Postal. Thank God she hasn’t figured out how to follow the games on her Blackberry yet.
Both these teams had some obvious holes to fill this week but Cappy had two potential starters on the bench with questionable status. Look for some big numbers from the Cap'n Parrotdead in weeks to come.
Jitterbugz choice of D-Will in the first round is looking pretty damn good at this point. The pundit that gave her a D- on her draft may have forgotten how much more valuable point guards are now that assists are worth two points.
