QFBA Rag – 2007-8 Week One

Cruisers Splatter Bugz

I’m not so impressed with the choice of Stojakovic and Dalembert but it hardly matters when you have two players score over 50 in the same week. I personally thought Iverson’s best days were behind him but that assessment may prove to be premature. And if there was any question about how Garnett would fit in with the Celts, he seems to have laid that concern to rest with a 20/20 performance this week.

Despite the two 50+ performances by her opponent, it was poor decision making that cost the Evil Step Mother this game. It was good that she was on the ball enough to yank Artest the Wife Beater out of her lineup but for Nene? Not only did she fail to put David West in the lineup for Artest the WB, she dropped him altogether! West for the WB would have given Bugz a three point victory. I can only wonder what foolishness comes next week.

D. West? You Must Be Kidding!

It would be a little better (thought not by much) if the SeaGals had thought the D. West they were drafting was David West, but Delonte West? With the 2nd pick overall?! Delonte Who? To be honest, I had to look the guy up, I’d never even heard of him!

Worst of all, they let Kobe slide right into the Chief’s hands like a gift from the Gods. Kobe for West, ‘Gals win. Better yet, without Kobe, Chief loses! I did some checking to see who they could have subbed for Marbury’s 18 to have a chance to win but alas, there was no lineup available to them that would have given them the win though they’d have come a lot closer with J. Crawford’s 36 over Never-Saw-A-Shot-I-Didn’t-Like Stephon.

As for the ‘Bus, the easy matchup gave him a chance to brush up on his trash talking. Something tells me that’s a skill he might need this year when he comes up against The Cap’n. A little birdie told me he had a hard time deciding between Bosh and Boozer. Bosh is going to have to do a lot better than this week’s 24 to swing that debate in Inky’s favor. Still, Incubus looks to be a good, though not great team this year. The good news for the Stinkubus is that he is already off to a good start in defending last year “Most Personnel Moves” title.

Chalk One Up For Kobe Kornhole

The Chief is already crowing about this win over a solid Crutch City team. Rednecks look like a solid but not spectacular team, until you add the Kornhole Kid. Tough to beat any team that has a player go off for 62 points. Okafor did a nice job for the defending Chumpion last year and, while he has to share the basketball this year, Pierce should still be solid in 07-08.

Clutch Titty looks solid right down the line. Though I love Kirilenko as an NBA player, I was not so sure about this pick as a fantasy player. It panned out this week though and if he can continue with those 5 X 5 stat lines, if won’t matter that he’s at least the 4th scoring option for the Jazz. It will be interesting to see how this pick turns out as the season progresses.

A Little Spelling Lesson Or What Difference Does a B Make?

Didigetagoodteam? actually did get a pretty good team. Ray Allen is still a question mark this year as he’s not going to be the top gun for the Celts like he was for the Sub-Sonics last year, plus he’s not getting any younger. He’s probably not even 2nd fiddle on his new team with Pierce and Garnett as the 1st and 2nd scoring options, so we’ll see how that pick turns out. Still, with Nash, Marion, Camby and Jamison in the starting lineup, didget? should get some Dubyas.

As for the Gubers, I’m not so sure bout Barbosa as a starting guard but a pretty solid lineup otherwise. The scary thing about this team is that the guy waiting in the wings to replace Barbosa is not other than D-Wade.

The rookie must feel a little cheated getting a measly 20 from LeBron only to see him go off for 63 on Friday, when it didn’t count. When James plays like James and D-Wade is in the lineup, this rookie is going to do some damage.

Maybe next year they’ll pick a name that’s not so easy to make fun of. A little fairly told me the name is meant to be Dubbers, as in JW, as in J-Dub as in Dubbers. Two “B’s” would have made all the difference in the world.

One last thing about the Guber. The same little birdie told me that he removed Kobe from his rankings so that he would be sure not to have the Kornhole Kid on his team. Someone should tell Gerber that there is no room for integrity in this league!

Upsets Will Okur

The Cap’n takes all the responsibly for this one. Okur struggled offensively at the end of the season last year and throughout the playoffs. He played some great “D” in the playoffs but that doesn’t matter much here, does it? Cap’n Parrotdead very nearly subbed Deng for Okur until Okur gets his offensive groove back. Had the Good Cap’n listened to his well-honed instincts, Team Parrotdead would have started the season with the “W” they so richly deserve. After all, Team Parrotdead is hands down the deepest team in the league, so why not use that bench?

Still, I must give FrontBummers their due. This is a very solid team right through five guys. I’m still a little sore that Hayduke so rudely snatched William right out from under me, though. Their bench is a little weak but Ginobili made a case for himself with 45 this week. I’m still not convinced he can put up those kind of number consistently but if he does, Coach Hayduke is going to have some tough decisions in the weeks ahead.
