QFBA Rag – 2007-8 Week Two

Cruisers Power Past ‘Bus

Last week I said that I wasn’t impressed with the choice of Stojakovic as starting Forward for the FJ’s. Rumor has it that Peja got wind of my comments and actually had the quote pinned on his locker for extra motivation. It must have worked because he certainly proved he belonged in this high-octane lineup by posting 42 points. Even so, he was just one spoke in this high RPM wheel enroute to the high posting of the young QFBA season as well as first place in the standings.

Poor “I still like my team” ‘Bus hardly knew what hit him. Even if the lame Bosh had posted the kind of numbers he’s capable of, it wouldn’t have mattered in this 211 to 142 hammering. This reporter has learned that the Inky one was found by the security patrol, bloodied and battered, wandering the Alaska Marine Lines container yard. As they raced the wounded coach to Harborview, he held his wounded head muttering something about being run over by a 4 X 4. God speed to ya, coach.

‘Bugs Overrun Crutch City

The Cap’n is wondering if he should have kept his mouth shut when he gave Coach S. a hard time about dropping David West. She promptly reinstated the underrated Forward and made a nice substitution by putting Kevin Martin in the game for Chancy Chauncey. Martin quickly rewarded her confidence with 48 points. Add 50 from Ming and a decent showing by everyone else you’ve got a 200 to 128 trouncing of the Clutchless Wonders.

Cruddy City suffered sub-standard performances from everyone, with AK-47’s 19 points pulling up the rear. Obviously, Kirilenko didn’t have a 90 point performance in him though Coach Tobias would have settled for 73. Is this the same team I called “solid” last week?

SeaGals Draft Wrong D. West

Sorry, I know I shouldn’t keep beating a dead SeaGal but just think, if they had squandered their Number two pick on the other D. West, nevery mind passing up Kobe, they’d have won this week. I have to give the Rookie Coach some credit though, as she has been furiously working the Free Agent wires to try and improve this team. It’s a shame she doesn’t have any good trade bait to try and improve that way.

As for her hapless opponent, he isn’t going to win too many games when Nash posts a lousy 23 and A. Jamison is his high scorer at 35. So didhegetagoodteam? After two weeks, the jury is still out on that one.

Rednicks Get Job Done Down the Stretch

With Okafor and Richardson coming in a 9 and 18 respectively, the Chief was certainly vulnerable this week. The Good Cap’n could have survived poor performances from normally solid Johnson and Gasol if only Okur had played a decent game. That makes two weeks in a row that the Cap’n dropped a game he could have won if he’d replaced Okur with Deng. That’s a mistake that won’t happen again any time soon. Give the Injuns their due, though, if they didn’t play like the defending champs they are, they were solid down the stretch when they had to be.

At a press conference this morning, the legendary coach of Cap’n Parrotdead announced that he has reason to believe that the 3-point shooting Turk has been kidnapped and replaced by an imposter. The Good Cap has posted a $50,000 reward for information leading to the safe return of Okur. In the meantime, the imposter Okur is being sat on an undisclosed bench until the issue is resolved.

“It’s not about Fantasy Basketball anymore,” The Cap’n said, “It’s about getting Memo back safe. We’re more than a team here, we’re family.” Teammate Carlos Boozer, who was present at the press conference, said “We all talked about it and we’ve decided to win this next one for the Memo.” You heard it here first, folks.

Rookie Coach J. Goober Gets First Dubya

Barbosa and Chandler didn’t blow anyone’s socks off this week but behind LeBron’s 50, they were good enough to get the Gubers their first win at the expense of Sophomore Sensation Coach Hayduke. Coach Dub was a little bummed that James’ 65 on Wednesday didn’t’ count but it mattered none as the Boobers rolled over Hayduke’s Troops.

I’m not convinced G. Wallace can put up solid numbers consistently but even so, his weak performance this week could have been overcome if the injured Stoudemire had posted 42 points, something he is certainly capable of when healthy. No matter, injuries are part of the game and a big reason why the Cap’n passed on Stoudemire in the draft. Still, I like this ‘Runners team and look out for the Dubers too, once Wade gets back in the lineup.
